(From exhibition text) As part of her three-month residency at the Aurora Cultural Centre, Julia used gestural painting and physical cropping to explore the formal and conceptual aspects of the term kitsch, contemplating its implications in advertising, identity, and the canon of art history. Through references to found imagery from magazines and the internet, she investigates the ways how accessible visual material can be manipulated and transformed to express critical thought.
